Planetary Health

Planetary health is the study and promotion of human health outcomes as directly dependent on the health of Earth’s natural systems. It focuses on how environmental change, especially those driven by human activity—affect health, and what policies and actions can protect both people and the planet.

Learn the Basics:

We find ourselves actors in one of history’s greatest dramas—a lone species with an exceptional talent for bending the natural world toward our will, spinning through space on a stunning but fragile planet. We are waking up to planetary health - the understanding that our disruption of Nature is threatening not just other species but also ourselves. Many of the solutions are in front of us. Do we have the will to implement them in time?

The Promise of Planetary Health

This workshop discusses the relationship between climate justice, health justice and movement building, and shares experiences of working in this space with hopefully some useful lessons.

  1. What are Students for Global Health? Who we are?

  2. Climate change and health - why we need to act now?

  3. Climate crisis is a health crisis + inequalities

  4. SfGH Position and our campaigns

  5. How to build capacity, how and where to seek for support

The future of medicine requires systems thinking, urgent action, and a new approach to healthcare and stewardship. Medicine for a Changing Planet is a collaboration between the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health and the University of Washington.
